Labneh with Smoked Salmon & Lemon

Creamy, tangy, and effortlessly elegant, this homemade labneh with smoked salmon and lemon is a simple dish that feels wonderfully indulgent.

Made by straining natural yogurt overnight, labneh develops a rich, velvety texture that pairs beautifully with delicate smoked salmon and the fresh brightness of lemon zest. Perfect as a light lunch, weekend brunch, or sophisticated appetiser, it’s delicious served with crisp crackers for an easy yet impressive sharing platter.

Ingredients

  • 450g natural Llaeth y Llan yogurt
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Smoked salmon
  • Finely grated lemon zest
  • Crackers, to serve

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the natural yogurt with the salt and lemon juice until well combined.
  2. Line a sieve with two sheets of kitchen roll and place it over a bowl.
  3. Spoon the yogurt mixture into the lined sieve.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight, allowing the whey to drain into the bowl below.
  5. The next day, carefully remove the labneh from the kitchen roll and transfer it to a serving dish.
  6. Top with slices of smoked salmon and finish with a generous sprinkling of freshly grated lemon zest.
  7. Serve with your favourite crackers.
